GTX 33 Testing
Operation of the GTX 33 Mode-S transponder is accomplished using PFD1, PFD2 or MFD. Refer to
G1000 in Hawker Beechcraft King Air C90A/GT Cockpit Reference Guide, Garmin P/N 190-00664-00, for
basic operation.
1. Ensure XPDR NO 1 CB is closed and open XPDR NO2 CB. Ensure XFR on the AFCS mode
controller is coupled left as indicated by a left pointing arrow.
2. Using a ramp tester, measure XPDR1 RF power output. Verify a power output of 125 - 500 Watts.
3. Using a ramp tester, measure XPDR1 mode S receiver sensitivity. Verify receiver sensitivity of
-74dBm
±
3.0dBm.
4. Using a ramp tester, measure XPDR1 ATCRBS Side Lobe Suppression (SLS) level. Verify reply
if P1 exceeds P2 by 9dB or more No reply if P2 equals or exceeds P1.
5. Using a ramp tester, measure XPDR1 ATCRBS reply. Verify replies to interrogations. F1 to F2
spacing, 20.3 µsec. to 0.1 µsec. F1 and F2 pulse width, 0.45 µsec. ± 0.10 µsec.
6. Using a ramp tester, evaluate XPDR1 mode S (tail number) interrogation. Verify proper mode S
reply.
7. Using an air data and XPNDR ramp tester, evaluate XPDR1 mode C interrogations. Verify
XPDR1 altitude indicates current pressure altitude displayed on PFD1 /- 125 ft.
8. On the AFCS mode controller press XFR button to couple to the right as indicated by a right
pointing arrow. Verify XPDR1 altitude indicates current pressure altitude displayed on PFD2.
9. On the AFCS mode controller press XFR button to couple to the left as indicated by a left pointing
arrow. Press the XPDR softkey on the PFD1.
10. Press the
CODE
softkey. Verify that a white cursor activates in the transponder squawk code field
and begins to blink.
11. Use the large and small FMS knob to enter a transponder code of 1234 and press the
ENT
key.
Verify proper squawk code reply on a ramp tester.
12. Select
IDENT
on PFD1, PFD2 pilot’s and co-pilots control wheel one at a time. Verify IDENT
reply on ramp tester from each IDENT button location.
13. Using a ramp tester, evaluate XPDR1 Squitter. Verify 0.8 to 2.4 seconds.
14. Close XPDR No 2 CB and open XPDR No 1 CB.
15. Repeat steps 2 – 13 utilizing XPNDR No 2.
