FCoE
Since Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) encapsulates FC frames and transfers them over Ethernet, a LAN envi-
ronment and an FC-SAN environment can be integrated. When there are networks for multiple I/O interfaces
(e.g. in a data center), the networks can be integrated and managed.

Ethernet
Ethernet is a NAS connection interface. An Ethernet network can be accessed as a file server from multiple con-
nected clients with different operating systems, for the easy sharing of data. The ETERNUS DX has an internal file
system for connection to existing LAN, allowing Ethernet to be installed relatively easily. However, load on the
network will increase, and therefore Ethernet is not suitable for applications that require high transfer rates.
A Unified kit is required to install Ethernet host interface. Registering the Unified kit license to the storage sys-
tem enables the NAS function.

Number of Installable Host Interfaces
In the ETERNUS DX500 S4/DX500 S3, two host interfaces can be installed in the controller. Each storage system
can be installed with four host interfaces.
In the ETERNUS DX600 S4/DX600 S3, four host interfaces can be installed in the controller. Each storage system
can be installed with eight host interfaces.
In the ETERNUS DX600 S4/DX600 S3 via an AC100V connection, two host interfaces can be installed in the
controller. Each storage system can be installed with four host interfaces.
Different types of host interfaces can exist together in the same ETERNUS DX.
Unified License
Installing the Unified License requires the Memory Extension and the Ethernet host interface.
Unified kit/Unified License cannot be installed if the Deduplication/Compression function is used.
