Upgrade Overview

Determine whether the upgrade will require you to
add a second power supply to your system.
If you add a second CPU, you must add a second power
supply. Refer to the section ‘‘Power Supply Configurations ’’
in this chapter.

Order the options and, if necessary, a second power
supply.

Install and configure the options.

Adding
Third-Party
Devices
Third-party devices are devices purchased from vendors other
than Digital.
Before attempting to connect third-party devices or install third-
party devices inside your system unit, check with the third-party
vendor to ensure that your system and operating system support
the device.
For information about installing supported third-party devices
inside the system unit, refer to the documentation for the device.
All the necessary bracketry for supported devices is supplied
with your system.
To connect external third-party SCSI devices to the system,
the mass storage bus must be extended. For information about
extending the SCSI mass storage bus, refer to the section ‘‘SCSI
Buses ’’ later in this chapter.
