
Invoking Console Mode
the Halt button has no effect if you are running Microsoft
Windows NT.
For more information about using the Halt button, refer to
Figure 2–1.
Remote Access
If you are running DEC OSF/1 or OpenVMS, you can invoke
console mode from a remote terminal that is connected to your
system through the COM2 port at the rear of the system. (See
Figure 1–10.)

Connect to your system from the remote terminal.
2.
Shut down the operating system.
3.
When the shutdown has completed, press
Return
.

Switching
Between
Operating
Systems
You can switch between the operating systems that you have
installed on the AlphaServer 2000 system by following the
instructions below. Become familiar with the ARC and SRM
console firmware and the EISA Configuration Utility before you
begin.
Caution
You must run the EISA Configuration Utility when you
switch between Microsoft Windows NT and DEC OSF/1
or OpenVMS. Not all options are supported under all
of the operating systems. Before you run the ECU,
check the Digital Systems and Options Catalog for the
requirements for the operating system to which you are
switching.
