4 Cable signal propagation time measurement

Step 1: estimate the PABX

FP cable length
- When installing new cables, mark the cable length (at least an estimate) on the cable
sheath.
- If you do not know the cable length, you can use an ordinary multimeter to determine this
by measuring the line resistance: plug the short-circuit plug (from the measuring kit) into the
FP end of the cable (i.e. the UAE outlet), so that you can measure the loop resistance at the
PABX end (at the connector block - cf. page 4-3, Step 3).
It is important to also mark the cable to identify the corresponding interface (e.g. Rack/Slot/
Interface address) so as to avoid re-connecting it to the wrong interface terminal block by
mistake.
