Glossary
Device ID
A unique number between 0 and 255. This will default to 0 when
the meter is reset, but the user is able to modify this at any time to
distinguish between different sensors being measured.
The
current value is recorded with each reading recorded in the
meter.
Equitensiometer
A sensor for soil matric potential - the negative pressure
(or suction) required to extract water from between the matrix of
soil particles. It is an important indication of plant water stress.
The value of soil matric potential measured depends mainly on the
quantity of water present and the make up of the soil, though it is
also affected by temperature and salinity.
It consists of a precision
soil moisture sensor (a ThetaProbe) whose measuring rods are
embedded in a porous material (the equilibrium body). This
material has a known, stable relationship between water content
and matric potential. When the probe is inserted into the soil, the
matric potential within the equilibrium body rapidly equilibrates to
that of the surrounding soils. The water content of the matric
material is measured directly by the ThetaProbe, and this can be
converted into the matric potential of the surrounding soil using
the calibration curve supplied with each
Equitensiometer.
The
HH2 Moisture Meter only reads Equitensiometers in raw mV. Each
Equitensiometer linearisation table is unique. These are not stored
in the HH2 in order to save memory.
ECb
Bulk Electrical Conductivity. A measure of how well electric charge
can be conducted through the bulk of the material, including all the
solid and water pores.
ECp
Pore Electrical Conductivity. A measure of how well electric
charge can be conducted through the water pores. It is of interest
as a means of measuring the concentration of ions present in the
pore water.
EQ1
Equitensiometer type EQ1. Soil matric potential sensor with one
differential analogue output.
EQ2
Equitensiometer type EQ2. Soil matric potential sensor with one
differential analogue output.
ERR_….
Specific errors detected by the meter are given labels. When
displayed by the PC software HH2Read a text description of the
error is also shown.
