5.1 SNMP
Short for Simple Network Management Protocol: a set of protocols for
managing complex networks. The first versions of SNMP were developed
in the early 80s. SNMP works by sending messages, called protocol data
units (PDUs), to different parts of a network. SNMP-compliant devices,
called agents, store data about themselves in Management Information
Bases (MIBs) and return this data to the SNMP requesters.
ACS uses the net-snmp package (http://www.net-snmp.org).

IMPORTANT!
Check the SNMP configuration before gathering
information about ACS by SNMP. There are different types of attacks an
unauthorized user can implement to retrieve sensitive information
contained in the MIB. By default, the SNMP configuration in ACS cannot
permit the public community to read SNMP information.
The net-snmp supports snmp version 1, 2 and 3. To use SNMP version 1
or 2 (community), you need to configure the communities in the snmp
config file (
/etc/snmp/snmpd.conf
