CHAMP-AV8
With conduction-cooled base cards, you must use a significant amount of insertion force to
mate the backplane connectors with the VPX backplane. Use extra care when aligning and
inserting your basecard into your chassis, to ensure that a secure mechanical and electrical
connection is made between the card and the backplane mating connectors.
Once the basecard is inserted in the chassis, use a 3/32 hex torque driver/wrench to tighten
the wedgelocks at the top and bottom of the card. The required torque is 6 in-lbs (67.8 N-cm).

In order to access the features available within the embedded firmware on the CHAMP-AV8,
you’ll need to attach a terminal or PC-emulated equivalent to the Node A Serial Port 0 interface
on the card. You can connect a terminal to the CHAMP-AV8 in one of the following ways:
• via the front panel connector (see “VPX6-462-A Front Panel” on page 1-37) using front
panel cable CBL-462-FPL-000 (J2) (for the air-cooled version product only);
• via the J2 connector for Node A or J3 connector for Node B using RTM6-462-000 to facil-
itate the connection, available from the factory (for both air-cooled and conduc-
tion-cooled version products).
Caution
Never press forcefully on the front panel. Pressing forcefully on the front panel can cause
the front panel to bow enough to damage the board and its components.
Caution
Wedgelocks must be properly tightened before operating the board. Failure to properly
tighten the wedgelocks can cause excessive over-heating of the CHAMP-AV8 board. The
required torque for the wedgelocks is 6 in-lbs (67.8 N-cm).
Tip
Default serial communication parameters are 115200 N, 8, 1 (115200 baud, no parity, 8
bits, 1 stop bit). Flow control is via software (XON/XOFF).
