5.3 Mechanical System

Prefeed Drive System
Use the illustration (Figure 5-17) below to
identify the mechanical components of the
prefeed drive system.
The prefeed motor (Figure 5-16, A) powers
the prefeed drive system. A shaft from this motor
extends directly into a drive pulley (B).
This pulley drives a belt (C) which powers
the carriage (E) which moves along a rail (F),
transporting the flatwork up to the Inlet System.
The belt also travels over an idler pulley (D).
Included in the drive system is a pneumatically
controlled clamp (G), which immediately stops
movement of the belt and carriage in cases where
machine operation is stopped by the pressing of
a red safety STOP button.
