Selecting the Copy Paper Size (PAPER SELECT)
Using the Stack Bypass
To make copies on transparencies or special (thick) copy stock, use the stack bypass. Copies can not
be made on paper fed from the paper drawers. Paper in the stack bypass will automatically be fed into
the machine.
If you select the Stack Bypass mode at paper selection, you can make copies from the stack bypass.
The following three types of paper can be copied using the stack bypass.

Standard Size
You can select standard inch system copy paper, or A or B series copy paper.
■
Free Size
You can place standard-size or non-standard size copy paper.
■
Material
You can place plain copy paper, thick copy paper and tracing paper.

Post card
You can place the post card.
NOTICE
●
Note the following points when using the stack bypass.
• Copy quantity: 1 to about 50 sheets (stack about 3/16" high)
• Paper size:
4-1/8" x 5-1/8" to 11" x 17"
• Paper weight: 17 to 32-lb bond (64 g/m
2
to 128 g/m
2
)
• Curl down copy paper before use.
(Curling amount : copy paper less than 3/8", post card less than 3/16")
• There are some types of copy stock which may meet the above specifications but cannot be fed in the
stack bypass.

When copying on transparencies while a paper output accessory except the Finisher-E1 is installed, the
output tray must be set to tray A. Verify and change the setting if necessary. (See “Setting up Dedicated
Tray for Copy, Fax and Printer,” on p. 4-13.)
●
When copying on a transparency, the output tray must be set to tray A. Check the setting and change it if
necessary.(See "Setting up Dedicated Trays for Copy and Fax" on p. 4-12.)
MEMO
●
When copying the following originals, you cannot use Auto Paper Selection:
• Highly transparent originals such as transparencies
• Originals with an extremely dark background
Use Manual Paper Selection with these types of paper.

When the Transparency Interleaving mode is already set, you cannot make copies by Free Size using the
stack bypass. When the Transparency Interleaving mode is selected when making copies by Free Size,
enter the copy size during mode-setting operations.
