Video Configuration: Movie Format, System Frequency, Bit Rate
and Frame Rate
Before you record, select the movie format, system frequency, bit rate and frame rate. The available options for
bit rate and frame rate will depend on the system frequency selected: 59.94 Hz (former NTSC broadcast area) or
50.00 Hz (former PAL broadcast area). See the following table for a summary.
Selecting the Movie Format (AVCHD/MP4)
You can choose to record in AVCHD or MP4 format. MP4 format is more
suitable for uploading to the Web and for file transfer.
1 Open the [Movie Format] submenu.

2 Select [AVCHD] or [MP4] and then press the joystick.
Selecting the System Frequency
1 Open the [System Frequency] submenu.

2 Select [59.94 Hz] or [50.00 Hz] and then press the joystick.
• The camcorder will reset and restart in the selected mode.
Selecting the Bit Rate
The bit rate selected determines also the resolution (frame size) and audio
recording mode of the recordings. (The audio recording mode is only for
AVCHD clips.)
1 Open the bit rate submenu for the selected movie format.

2 Select the desired option and then press the joystick.
• The selected bit rate and resolution will appear on the upper right of
the screen. (The resolution appears only for MP4 clips.)
