Starting with a battery in the vehicle
1.
Connect the terminal clips on the starter cable
(Fig. 1, Pos. 6) to the vehicle battery, ensuring
cor-
rect polarity.
$
Red terminal clip (+) to the positive terminal on
the battery.
$
Black terminal clip (–) to the negative terminal on
the battery.
2.
Press the ON/OFF button (Fig. 2, Pos. 1) briefly.
The BAT 250 is ready when
LED 6
lights up green.
i
If
LED 7
lights up red, the polarity has been re-
versed. If
LED 7
lights up red and
LED 8
lights up
yellow, there is no contact with the battery or the
vehicle has no battery.
3.
Start the vehicle.
If the engine starts:
The BAT 250 switches off automatically, the termi-
nal clips are de-energized.
If the engine does not start within 10 s:
The starting process is automatically terminated
after 10 s. A new start attempt can be made after
a waiting time of 5 s.
4.
Disconnect the terminal clips on the starter cable
from the vehicle battery
4.
Starting with a defective battery or
no battery in the vehicle (battery
replacement mode)
If the vehicle has
R
a defective battery or
R
no battery or
R
if the vehicle to be started has an electronic immobi-
lizer or an additional starting relay,
it can be started in “battery replacement mode”.
i
Every time the BAT 250 is activated, a check is
performed to see if polarity is correct of if a short
circuit has occurred. Therefore, always connect the
terminal pliers before activating BAT 250.
!
If there is no battery or if the battery voltage is lower
than 1 volt, BAT 250 cannot detect polarity inversal.

precautions

Important instructions for using the
BA 2
¶
The BAT 250 must only be used to start vehicles with
a 12 Volt vehicle electrical system.
¶
Before using the BAT 250, please read the operating
instructions carefully.
¶
Always stand the BAT 250 in an upright position on a
firm base.
¶
Connect the terminal clips securely to the vehicle bat-
tery terminals, ensuring correct polarity.
¶
Ensure that the BAT 250 is switched off before releas-
ing the terminal clips from the vehicle battery.
¶
Each time it is switched on, the BAT 250 checks the
status of its internal battery. The charge status of
the internal battery is displayed for 10 s by means of
LEDs (Fig. 3, Pos. 3, 4 or 5).
¶
Every time the BAT 250 is activated, the terminal pli-
ers connection is evaluated and the result displayed
by LEDs 6 - 8 (see Ch. 3.4). Therefore, always con-
nect the terminal pliers before activating BAT 250. No
evaluation is performed during operation except if the
terminal pliers are disconnected from the battery.
¶
The BAT 250 recognizes the end of the start-up proc-
ess. If the engine starts, the BAT 250 switches off
automatically.
¶
In “battery replacement mode” there is no safety
monitoring. Ensure correct polarity.
¶
For safety reasons, only trained personnel who are
familiar with its operation may use the battery starter.
¶
Exercise caution when opening the BAT 250. The bat-
tery is charged. Risk of short-circuit at the terminals.
Always use insulated tools.
¶
To avoid a damaging exhaustive discharge of the
internal battery, the ON period for the BAT 250 is
restricted to 4 h in all operating modes. The voltage of
the internal battery is continuously monitored accord-
ing to the operating mode. The BAT 250 shuts down if
a critical limit is violated.
