1. Connect the terminal pliers on the battery jumper
cables (Fig. 1, Pos. 6) to the vehicle battery or a
suitable place in the vehicle. Ensure the
polarity is
correct .

Ensure that the terminal pliers cannot cause a short
circuit and are well insulated.
$
Red terminal pliers: (+) plus pole.
$
Black terminal pliers: (–) minus pole.
2. Press the ON/OFF button (Fig. 2, Pos. 2) briefly.

If the red LED 7 “No contact with battery” flashes,
the pliers or battery has short-circuited. In this
case, de-activate BAT 250 immediately and correct
the fault (correct the terminal pliers short-circuit;
or replace the battery if it’s the battery that short-
circuited). Then proceed with step 1 again.
3. If the red LED 7 and the yellow LED 8 light up, and the
polarity is correct (and only in this case!), briefly press
the battery standby mode button (Fig. 1, Pos. 2).

If polarity is inverted, BAT 250 or the electrical
equipment in the vehicle may be destroyed.
 LED 6 lights up green and yellow in alternation.
4. Start the vehicle.
 If the engine starts:
BAT 250 remains activated.
 If the engine does not start within 10 seconds:
The start-assist procedure is automatically abort-
ed. Wait 5 seconds and try to start the vehicle
again.

You are advised to de-activate BAT 250 when the
engine is de-activated. If this is not possible, only de-
activate BAT 250 when the engine is idle and equip-
ment (e.g. heated rear windshield) is active. Only
disconnect the battery then.
4.4 Back-up mode
“Back-up mode” can be used to supply power to the ve-
hicle electrical system (e.g. when changing the battery)
to prevent data from being lost.
1. Connect the terminal clips to the terminals on the
vehicle battery.
2. Press and hold down the ON/OFF button (Fig. 2,
Pos. 2) for 2 s .
 LED 6 lights up yellow. Back-up mode is switched on.

The terminal clips are now live. The BAT 250 switch-
es back-up mode off automatically if the power input
exceeds 50 A.
3. Press the ON/OFF button (Fig. 2, Pos. 2) to switch
off back-up mode.
4.� Starting from back-up mode
If you have selected back-up mode and then wish to start
the engine, this can only be done within the first minute.

Start the vehicle.

The BAT 250 automatically switches from back-up
mode to start-up mode.

LED 6 changes from yellow to green.
4.6 �roubleshooting
Fault:
Alarm indicator LED 7 lights up red.
Cause:
Polarity reversed on starter cable or terminal clip has
become disconnected from the vehicle battery during
the starting process.
Remedy:
1. Switch off the BA� 2�� by pressing the ON/OFF but-
ton (Fig. 2, Pos. 2) briefly.
2. Check the fit of the terminal clips, clean the contact
surfaces of the battery terminals and terminal clips.
