6.17 Sew Thick Areas
> Attach the Zigzag Foot (DA).
– The black button on the left side of the presser foot will lock the presser foot in a horizontal position if
you push it in before lowering the presser foot (1). This ensures even feeding at the beginning of a
seam and helps when sewing multiple layers of fabric such as sewing over seams when hemming
jeans.
> Once the highest point has been reached, lower the needle and raise the presser foot.
> Press the foot tip and the black knob, lower the presser foot and continue sewing.
– The black button releases automatically after sewing few stitches.

> To support the presser foot when manually guiding the fabric and sewing from the folded side, place
one, two or three small plates from the height compensating tool (1) behind the needle under the
presser foot.

> Stop the machine when the corner is reached.
> Pierce the needle into the fabric.
> Raise the presser foot.
> Use the needle as a pivot and turn the fabric.
> Lower the presser foot and continue sewing.
