Configuring the Printer
2-21
Buffer Allocation Considerations
Keep thes e item s in m ind when alloc ating m em ory.
♦
Do not alloc ate m ore m em ory than what is available.
♦
Free m em ory from one buffer before adding it to another buffer.
♦
Realloc ate all the buffers if realloc ating any buffer.
♦
Send all buffer (re)alloc ations in one pac ket. The printer evaluates eac h individual buffer
alloc ation s eparately. If one buffer alloc ation is invalid, the entire pac ket is invalid. If a
defined buffer s iz e exc eeds the m axim um value, an error oc c urs . However, no inform ation is
los t.
♦
W henever the printer ac c epts a m em ory c onfiguration pac ket, it takes effec t im m ediately,
c aus ing a printer res et. Any inform ation c ontained in the buffers is los t. Res end the form ats ,
batc hes , graphic s , or fonts to the printer.
♦
W hen rem apping the im age buffer, m ake s ure the length and width s pec ified in the form at
header are not too large for the c urrent im age buffer. For exam ple, rem apping for a
4 x 4 inc h label and then printing a 4 x 6 inc h label c aus es an error, until the form at header is
c hanged or the im age buffer is inc reas ed.
Memory Considerations w ith Dow nloaded TrueType Fonts
Save the fonts to flas h m em ory for optim al perform anc e with downloaded fonts . No m em ory
c onfiguration pac kets are nec es s ary s inc e flas h m em ory c annot be realloc ated.
A b o u t F l a s h M e m o ry
Item s s tored in flas h m em ory are s aved when the printer is turned off.
Flash me mory cannot be
re allocate d.
Flas h m em ory c an c ontain form ats , fonts , graphic s , ADK s c ripts , and c hec k digits . Store form ats
in flas h to us e the printer offline (not c onnec ted to a hos t). W hen form ats , graphic s , and c hec k
digits are s aved in flas h (a c opy is autom atic ally plac ed in RAM). Any of the pac kets s aved in
flas h c annot exc eed the m em ory available in RAM. For this reas on, s
tore fonts or ADK scripts
in flash me mory
. (Fonts and ADK s c ripts s aved in flas h are not c opied into RAM.)
Before s ending pac kets to flas h m em ory, it m us t be form atted.
Formatting Flash Memory
Form atting flas h m em ory
is re quire d once during initial printe r se tup
. From the Main Menu,
s elec t Setup, Flas h Mem ory, then Form at Flas h. The proc es s takes a few m inutes .
Note :
W hen form atting flas h m em ory, all pac kets (form ats , fonts , graphic s , etc .) s tored in flas h
m em ory are deleted and m us t be res ent to the printer.
Checking Available Flash Memory
To c hec k the am ount of available flas h m em ory in the printer, from the Main Menu, Selec t Setup,
Flas h Mem ory, then Unus ed Flas h. The num ber (in bytes ) of available flas h m em ory is s hown.
Divide this num ber by 1024 to get the num ber of available kilobytes and m ake s ure the font or
ADK s c ript files do not exc eed this am ount. For exam ple, if the printer dis plays “Unus ed Flas h
10223616,” there is 9984K (9.75 Meg) of available flas h m em ory for fonts or ADK s c ript files .
Flas h m em ory c annot be realloc ated.
