Selec t whic h m ode to us e in the bar c ode field or allow the printer to auto-s elec t the m ode (0, 2,
or 3) bas ed on the data. See “Defining a Bar Code Field” for m ore inform ation. MaxiCode
autom atic ally pads data with the “! ” c harac ter.
Note : MaxiCode does not s upport the NULL c harac ter.
Modes 2 and 3 are defined by the way the pos tal c ode, c las s of s ervic e, and c ountry c ode fields
are arranged. (The pos tal c ode, c las s of s ervic e, and c ountry c ode are required fields .) Begin
with the m es s age header, then the prim ary data (15 c harac ters ), followed by the s ec ondary
m es s age (up to 78 c harac ters ). Or, begin with the prim ary data, then the m es s age header,
followed by the s ec ondary data. If the pos tal c ode data c harac ters are all num eric then the
MaxiCode s ym bol is s et to Mode 2. If the c harac ters are alphanum eric , or only c ontain ASCII
c harac ters 65 to 90, then the MaxiCode s ym bol is s et to Mode 3.
If error 612 appears , c hec k the MaxiCode data. It m ay not be c orrec tly s truc tured or m is s ing one
of the three required fields (pos tal c ode, c las s of s ervic e, and c ountry c ode) or the “~029"
c harac ter.
