Fixed data is inform ation (a c om pany nam e or s tore num ber) to print on all labels . Define fixed
c harac ters for an entire field or for part of a field.

R3. “fix ed c har” Charac ters to ins ert. Enc los e in quotation m arks . If defining fixed
c harac ters for part of a field, plac e unders c ores (_) in non-fixed
pos itions . Any s pac es in the phras e are fixed c harac ters . Range:
0 to 2710 . Unders c ore c harac ters are s tripped out and the data
is c om pres s ed if no data is s upplied by the batc h and the field
length is variable.

Us es fixed c harac ters (%$) in pos itions 4 and 5. The other pos itions are variable.

To fill in the non-fixed portion of the field, s ee “ Defining Batc h Data Fields ” in Chapter 6. As an
alternative, apply Option 4 to c opy data into the non-fixed c harac ter pos itions .

This option res tric ts the data type for a partic ular field. Us e Options 2 or 3 only onc e per field. Do
not us e with Option 3 (Data Entry Tem plates ). If batc h data is entered in the batc h pac ket,
do not
apply Options 2 and 3. Only us e thes e options for offline batc h entry.
Note : Us e a keyboard or s c anner for offline data entry.

R3. c har c ode Charac ter type for the field. 1 is the default. Options :
1 Num eric only (0..9)
2 Letters only (A..Z,a..z )
3 Sym bols only (printable c harac ters other than letters or
num bers )
4 Letters and num bers only
5 Num bers and s ym bols only
6 Letters and s ym bols only
Spac es are perm itted in all c ategories . Us e a c om bination of any
two (letter, num bers , or s ym bols ) c harac ter types .
