General safety principles
Due to multiple hazards, read and understand the safety instructions before starting the installation, works,
repair, maintenance, and changing the accessories or when working in the vicinity of a pneumatic tool. Failure
to do so may result in serious injuries. Pneumatic tools may only be installed, adjusted, and assembled by
quali
fi
ed and trained personnel. Do not modify the pneumatic tool. Modi
fi
cations can reduce e
ffi
ciency and
safety, and increase the risk for the tool operator. Do not throw away the safety instructions. They should be
handed over to the tool operator. Do not use the pneumatic tool if it is damaged. The tool must be periodically
inspected for the visibility of information required by the ISO 11148 standard. The employer/user should con-
tact the manufacturer to replace the rating plate whenever necessary.
Hazards connected with ejected parts
Damage to the workpiece, accessories or even to the tool to be inserted can result in parts being ejected at
high speeds. Always use impact-resistant eye protection. The degree of protection must be selected according
to the works carried out. Make sure that the workpiece is securely clamped.
Hazards connected with entanglement
The Hazards connected with entanglement may cause choking, scalping and/or cutting if loose clothing, jewel-
lery, hair or gloves are not kept away from the tool or accessories. Gloves may be entangled by a rotating car-
rier and may cut o
ff
or break
fi
ngers. Gloves covered with rubber or metal reinforced gloves can easily get tan-
gled in the attachments installed on the tool carrier. Do not wear loose-
fi
tting gloves or gloves with cut or frayed
fi
ngers. Never hold the carrier, attachment or extension cord. Keep your hands away from rotating carriers.
Hazards connected with work
Using the tool can expose the operator’s hands to hazards such as crushing, impact, cutting, abrasion and
heat. Wear suitable gloves to protect your hands. The operator and the maintenance personnel should be
physically able to cope with the quantity, weight and power of the tool. Hold the tool correctly. Be prepared
to withstand normal or unexpected movements and always keep both hands at the ready. Where torque ab-
sorbing equipment is required, it is recommended to use a support arm where possible. However, if this is not
possible, it is recommended to use side grips for straight tools and tools with a pistol grip. The use of lateral
control rods for o
ff
set screwdrivers is recommended. In any case, it is recommended to use torque absorbing
equipment above: 4 Nm for straight tools, 10 Nm for pistol grip tools, 60 Nm for o
ff
set screwdrivers. The pres-
sure on the start and stop device should be released in the event of a power failure. Use only the lubricants
recommended by the manufacturer. Fingers may be crushed in screwdrivers with open grippers. Do not use
tools in con
fi
ned spaces and avoid placing hands between tool and workpiece, especially when unscrewing.
Hazards related to repetitive movements
When using a pneumatic tool for work entailing repetitive movements, the operator is exposed to the discom-
fort of hands, arms, shoulders, neck, or other parts of the body. When using a pneumatic tool, the operator
should take a comfortable posture to ensure the feet are correctly positioned and avoid strange or unbal-
anced postures. The operator should change the posture over a long time to avoid discomfort and fatigue. If
the operator experiences symptoms such as persistent or repeated discomfort, pain, pulsating pain, tingling,
numbness, burning, or sti
ff
ness, they should not ignore them. The operator should inform the employer and
consult a physician.
Risks from accessories
Disconnect the tool from the power supply before replacing the tool to be inserted or accessory. Do not touch
the attachments and accessories while the tool is running as this increases the risk of injury, burns due to
vibrations. Use accessories and consumables only in the sizes and types recommended by the manufacturer.
Use only impact attachments in good condition; bad condition or non-impact attachment used in impact tools
can disintegrate and become a bullet.
