Parameters of the
modulation area
The modulation of the RF signal to be generated is set in this area of the menu.
Modulation —
Selection field.
Selections possible: GMSK or none.
Channel —
Selects one of the following channel types: GSM, PDCH or
BCH+PDCH.
For GSM channel, the 4460 GSM System Option and 4468 EDGE System Option
generates a modulated signal with a data pattern specified in the Data entry
field. If the check box Training Seq. is selected, the data pattern is filled into two
blocks of 58 “encrypted bits”; otherwise, the data pattern is filled into all
148 bits of the burst. No channel coding is performed.
Depending on the signal type selected in the Signal type entry field, the signal is
sent either continuously (with constant power level or individual power levels)
or as bursts. It does not take into account any tail bits or multiframe structures
with idle frames.
If PDCH is selected, a signal with one or multiple time slots of channel combina-
tion 13 (PDTCH/F + PACCH/F PTCCH/F) is generated. The PDTCH/F blocks can be
split into RLC/MAC headers with user-definable contents and a pseudorandom

field will not be available.

connector on the rear of the test set.
NOTE
Setting “none” means that the RF output signal generated by the 4400 will be
unmodulated, i.e. a pure carrier sine wave.
NOTE
When “none” has been selected on this field, all other entry fields of this
menu area will not be available.
NOTE
The modulation setting also affects measurements in the analyzer: If GMSK is
selected, the analyzer will attempt to demodulate the signal; phase and fre-
quency error are shown with respect to a GMSK-modulated signal. Adversely,
if no modulation is selected in the generator, the analyzer shows the results
assuming that the input signal is unmodulated as well.
