VX-3R Operating Manual
The Emergency Automatic ID (EAI) Feature requires that you (1) store the CTCSS Tone Pair into the
Receiving Pager Memory (see page ?? for procedure), and (2) store the desired UHF coordination
frequency into Memory Channel “EAI” (see page ?? for procedure).
Selecting the EAI mode and its Transmit Time
1. Press and hold in the [TXPO] key for one second to enter the Set mode.
2. Rotate the DIAL knob to select Set Mode Item 31: EAI.TMR.
Note: Do not forget to pull the DIAL knob to rotate the DIAL knob.
3. Press the [TXPO] key momentarily to enable adjustment of this Set Mode Item.
4. Rotate the DIAL knob to select the desired EAI mode (Interval EAI “INT” or Continuous EAI “CON”) and
its transmit time (1-10, 15, 20, 30, 40, and 50 minutes).
5. Press the PTT switch to save the new setting and exit to normal operation.
Activating the EAI feature
1. Press and hold in the [TXPO] key for one second to enter the Set mode.
2. Rotate the DIAL knob to select Set Mode Item 30: EAI.
Note: Do not forget to pull the DIAL knob to rotate the DIAL knob.
3. Press the [TXPO] key momentarily to enable adjustment of this Set Mode Item.
4. Rotate the DIAL knob to select “ON” (thus activating the EAI feature).
5. Press the PTT switch to save the new setting and exit to normal operation (with EAI feature “ON”).
When the EAI feature is activated, the “EAI” notation and the Band Number (or memory channel
number) will appear alternately in the Memory Channel Number Display Slot of the display.
To disable the EAI feature, just repeat above procedure, rotating the DIAL knob to select “OFF” in step “4”
above.
R.F. Says: The VX-3R will ignore the EAI feature when the (1) the squelch is open, (2) there is an incoming
the signal on the operating frequency, (3) the operating frequency is the same as the frequency which is
stored in the Memory Channel “EAI,” or (4) a VHF frequency is stored in Memory Channel “EAI.”
To Locate an Unresponsive Operator Using the EAI feature
1. Recall the Memory Channel “EAI” (of the searched person’s radio), which is found to next to the last
“regular” memory channel.
2. Set the CTCSS tone pair which is the same CTCSS tone pair stored in the Receiving Pager Code
Memory of the missing person’s radio.

Press and hold in the [TXPO] key for one second to enter the Set mode.
B.
Rotate the DIAL knob to select Set Mode Item 62: PAG.CDT.
