The 9000 Series decoder includes very high quality video scaling and several configuration
options to allow you to control the format of the output video and how it relates to the
format of the network video stream being decoded. By default the decoder is configured to
automatically choose the optimum output resolution, frame rate, and aspect ratio based on
the resolution, frame rate, and aspect ratio of the network stream. However, it also offers
options to force any decoded stream format to a selected and fixed output format as well.
The decoder has SDI, HDMI/DVI, component, and composite video connections to allow
video to be sent to a wide range of both high definition (recommended) and standard
definition devices but a connection is automatically disabled if it is not capable of supporting
the current output format. For example, if the output video format is 480i then all
connections are active, but if the output format is 1080p then only SDI and HDMI/DVI
connections are active and component and composite connections are disabled. You can
check the current output format and the active output connections on either this
configuration page or the
Decoder Status
>
Receivers/Video/Audio
page. This page is detailed
in the Monitor Receivers/Video/Audio topic.
When the decoder is connected to an HDMI or DVI device it will read the device’s EDID to
ensure that the device can accept the current output format and, if necessary, the decoder will
automatically adjust its output to a format supported by the attached device. This check and
possible adjustment will happen in both auto and fixed output format modes.
Field
Description
Enable Video Output Enable|disable video output from the decoder.
Display Mode
• Letterbox – Also known as "pillarbars." This will add vertical or
horizontal black bars if necessary to preserve the aspect ratio of
the decoded video when scaling to the output format.
• Fit – This will stretch the decoded video if necessary when
scaling to the output format and will potentially change the
aspect ratio.
• Crop – This will crop vertical or horizontal edges of the
decoded video if necessary to preserve the aspect ratio of the
decoded video when scaling to the output format.
