Compressor Oil Change
After the first six m onths of accum ulated operation, or
after 1,000 hours operation—w hichever com es first—it is
recom m ended to change the oil filter. It is recom m ended
to subscribe to the Trane annual oil analysis program
rather than autom atically change the oil as part of
scheduled m aintenance. Change the oil only if indicated
by the oil analysis. Use of an oil analysis program w ill
reduce the chiller ’s overall lifetim e waste oil generation
and m inim ize refrigerant em issions. The analysis
determ ines system m oisture content, acid level, and w ear
m etal content; it can be used as a diagnostic tool. Due to
the new refrigerant and oil com bination, the oil analysis
should be perform ed by the Trane Chem ical Laboratory.
In conjunction w ith other diagnostics perform ed by a
qualified service technician, oil analyses can provide
valuable inform ation on the perform ance of the chiller to
help m inim ize operating and m aintenance costs and
m axim ize its operating life. An access valve is installed in
the oil supply line, before the oil filter, for obtaining oil
sam ples.

•
Use only Trane OIL00022. A full oil change is 79.5 L
(21 gallons).
Leak Checking Based on Purge
Pump Out Time
Figure 52
has been developed to aid in determ ining w hen
to do a leak check of a chiller based on the purge pum p out
tim e and unit size. This figure depicts norm al purge pum p-
out tim es, sm all leaks and large leaks based on the chiller
tonnage.
If the purge pum p-out tim e is in the sm all leak region, then
a leak check should be perform ed and all leaks repaired at
the earliest convenience. If the purge pum p-out tim e is in
the large leak region, a thorough leak check of the unit
should be perform ed im m ediately to find and fix the leaks.
