Installation Requirements
N ot e: Graphic labels (show n above) are used for CE
application only.
Im port ant :
•
Before servicing, disconnect all pow er sources and
allow at least 30 m inutes for capacitors to discharge.
•
All electrical enclosures—unit or rem ote—are IP2X.
Unit-m ounted starters are available as an option on m ost
units. While this option elim inates m ost field-installed
w iring requirem ents, the electrical contractor m ust still
com plete the electrical connection for the follow ing:
•
pow er supply w iring to the starter,
•
other unit control options present, and
•
any field-supplied control devices.
As you review this m anual, along w ith the w iring
instructions presented in this section, keep in m ind that:
•
All field-installed w iring m ust conform to National
Electric Code (NEC) guidelines, and any applicable
national, state, and local codes. For the USA, be sure to
satisfy proper equipm ent grounding requirem ents per
NEC.
•
Com pressor m otor and unit electrical data (including
m otor kW, voltage utilization range, rated load am ps,
and locked rotor am ps) is listed on the chiller
nam eplate.
•
All field-installed w iring m ust be checked for proper
term inations, and for possible shorts or grounds.
N ot e: Always refer to the actual w iring diagram s that
shipped w ith the chiller or the unit subm ittal for
specific as-built electrical schem atic and
connection inform ation.
Do not m odify or cut enclosure to provide electrical access.
Rem ovable panels have been provided, and any
m odification should be done away from the enclosure. If
the starter enclosure m ust be cut to provide electrical
access, exercise care to prevent debris from falling inside
the enclosure. Refer to installation inform ation shipped
w ith the starter or subm ittal draw ings.
Electrical Requirements
Before w iring begins, observe the follow ing electrical
requirem ents:
•
Follow all lockout-tagout procedures prior to
perform ing installation and/or service on the unit.
•
Always w ear appropriate personal protective
equipm ent.
•
Wait the required tim e to allow the capacitor(s) to
discharge; this could be up to 30 m inutes.
•
Verify that all capacitors are discharged prior to service
using a properly rated volt m eter.
•
Use appropriate capacitor discharge tool w hen
necessary.
•
Com ply w ith the safety practices recom m ended in
PROD-SVB06* -EN.
WARNING
Proper Field Wiring and Grounding
Required!
Failure to follow code could result in death or serious
injury. All field w iring M UST be performed by qualified
personnel. Improperly installed and grounded field
w iring poses FIRE and ELECTROCUTION hazards. To
avoid these hazards, you M UST follow requirements for
field w iring installation and grounding as described in
NEC and your local/ state/ national electrical codes.

NOTICE:
Starter Component Damage!
Failure to remove debris from inside the starter panel
could result in an electrical short and could cause
serious starter component damage.
