Installation: M echanical
Operating Environment
Im port ant :
•
The standard chiller is designed for indoor use only
and as such has NEM A Type 1 or IP 20 enclosures.
•
For chillers in unheated equipm ent room s, contact
your local Trane service agency for m ethods to ensure
that the oil tem perature is m aintained suitable for
proper operation of the chiller.
To ensure that electrical com ponents operate properly, do
not locate the chiller in an area exposed to dust, dirt,
corrosive fum es, or excessive heat and hum idity. The
am bient tem perature range for chiller operation is 1.1°C to
40°C (34°F to 104°F).
Foundation Requirements
Chiller m ounting surface m ust be:
•
rigid non-warping m ounting pads or a concrete
foundation.
•
able to support the chiller at its full operating w eight
(including com pleted piping, and full operating
charges of refrigerant, oil and water.)
For proper unit operation, the chiller m ust be level w ithin
1.6 m m (1/16 in.) over its length and w idth w hen set into
place on the m ounting surface.
Table 2, p. 16
show s
approxim ate w eights for various chiller sizes and options.
N ot e: For specific w eight inform ation, refer to the unit
subm ittal package.
Im port ant :
Trane w ill not assum e responsibility for
equipm ent problem s resulting from an
im properly designed or constructed
foundation.
Rigging
Lifting is the recom m ended m ethod for m oving chillers.
Suggested lifting arrangem ents for standard units are
described in
“ Standard Chiller Lift,” p. 17
.
N ot e: The lifting beam used for Sim plex units m ust be at
least 4.572 m eters (15 feet) long.
Standard Chiller Lift
1.
Insert clevis connections at the points indicated in
Figure 5, p. 18
. A 63.5 m m (2.5 in.) diam eter lifting hole
is provided at each of these points.
2. Attach the lifting chains or cables.
3. Once the lifting cables are in place, attach a safety chain
or cable betw een the first-stage casing of the
com pressor and the lifting beam .
Im port ant :
There should not be tension on this safety
cable; the cable is used only to prevent the
unit from rolling during the lift.
4. Position isolator pads or spring isolators beneath the
chiller feet (refer to
“ Unit Isolation,” p. 19
for
instructions).
N ot e: Follow instructions provided by the spring
isolator m anufacturer, being careful to not
dam age isolator adjustm ent bolt.
NOTICE:
Equipment Failure!
Unit operating at ambient temperatures exceeding
40°C (104°F) could result in starter component damage
due to the panel’s inability to dissipate heat adequately.
If any of these adverse operating conditions are
present, take necessary action to improve the
equipment room environment.
WARNING
Heavy Objects!
Failure to properly lift unit could result in death or
serious injury, or equipment or property-only damage.
Do not use cables (chains or slings) except as show n in
Figure 5, p. 18
. Each of the cables (chains or slings)
used to lift the unit must be capable of supporting the
entire weight of the unit. Lifting cables (chains or
slings) may not be of the same length. Adjust as
necessary for even unit lift.
WARNING
Improper Unit Lift!
Failure to properly lift unit could result in death or
serious injury, or equipment or property-only damage.
•
Test lift unit approximately 61 cm (24 inches) to verify
proper center of gravity lift point. To avoid dropping
of unit, reposition lifting point if unit is not level.
•
Do not lift chiller utilizing w aterbox lifting lug.
Waterbox lifting lug is to be used only for removing
w aterbox from chiller.
•
Do not lift chiller utilizing elbow lifting tab. Elbow
lifting tab and approved clevis are used w hen
removing elbow from chiller.
NOTICE:
Wiring Damage!
Damage to unit w iring could result in equipment
failure. Care must be taken during rigging, assembly
and disassembly to avoid damaging unit w iring.
