CWR—Outdoor Option
The outdoor tem perature sensor is sim ilar to the unit-
m ounted tem perature sensors in that it consists of the
sensor probe and the m odule. A four-w ire IPC bus is
connected to the m odule for 24 Vdc pow er and the
com m unications link. Trane recom m ends m ounting the
sensor m odule w ithin the control panel and the sensor tw o
w ire leads be extended and routed to the outdoor
tem perature sensor probe sensing location. This ensures
the four-w ire IPC bus protection and provides access to the
m odule for configuration at start-up.
The sensor probe lead w ire betw een the sensor probe and
the m odule can be separated by cutting the tw o-w ire
probe lead leaving equal lengths of w ire on each device:
the sensor probe and the sensor m odule.
N ot e: This sensor and m odule are m atched and m ust
rem ain together or inaccuracy m ay occur.
These w ires can then be spliced w ith tw o 14–18 AWG 600V
w ires of sufficient length to reach the desired outdoor
location w ith a m axim um length 304.8 m eters (1000 feet).
For AWG/M CM equivalents in m m

, refer to
Table 12,
p. 47
. The m odule four-w ire bus m ust be connected to the
control panel four-w ire bus using the Trane-approved
connectors provided.
The sensor w ill be configured (given its identity and
becom e functional) at start-up w hen the Trane service
technician perform s the start-up configuration. It w ill NOT
be operational until that tim e.
N ot e: If shielded cable is used to extend the sensor leads,
be sure to cover the shield w ire w ith tape at the
junction box and ground it at the control panel. If
the added length is run in conduit, do not run them
in the sam e conduit w ith other circuits carrying 30
or m ore volts.
Im port ant :
M aintain at least 16 cm (6 in.) betw een low-
voltage (<30V) and high voltage circuits.
Failure to do so could result in electrical
noise that m ay distort the signals carried by
the low-voltage w iring, including the IPC.
Optional Control and Output Circuits
Install various optional w iring as required by the ow ner ’s
specifications (see
Table 18, p. 63
).
Optional Tracer Communication Interface
This control option allow s the control panel to exchange
inform ation—such as chiller status and operating set
points—w ith a Tracer system .
N ot e: The circuit m ust be run in separate conduit to
prevent electrical noise interference.
Additional inform ation about the Tracer Com m unication
interface option is published in the installation and
operation guide that ships w ith the Tracer.
Unit Start-up/ Commissioning
Im port ant :
Start-up m ust be perform ed by Trane or an
agent of Trane specifically authorized to
perform start-up and warranty of Trane
®
products. Contractor shall provide Trane (or
an agent of Trane specifically authorized to
perform start-up) w ith notice of the
scheduled start-up at least tw o w eeks prior
to the scheduled start-up.
Starter M odule Configuration
The starter m odule configuration settings w ill be checked
(and configured for Rem ote Starters) during start-up
com m issioning.
N ot e: To configure starter m odules, and perform other
starter checks, it is recom m ended that the line
voltage three-phase pow er be turned off and
secured (locked out), and then that a separate
source control pow er (115 Vac) be utilized to pow er
up the control circuits.
Use the as-built starter schem atic to ensure correct fuse
and term inals. Verify that the correct fuse is rem oved and
that the control circuit connections are correct; then apply
the 115 Vac separate source pow er to service the controls.
Schematic Wiring Draw ings
Please refer to the subm ittals and draw ings that shipped
w ith the unit. Additional w iring draw ings for CenTraVac
chillers are available from your local Trane office.
