Result Codes
The modems in the MP/16 are shipped with result codes disabled.
This is because most network managers prefer to use SNMP
management to monitor calls. Result codes must be enabled if you
plan to monitor calls through a DTE (EIA RS-232) connection.
With result codes enabled, the modems return verbal or numeric
codes to the DTE in response to various connection status results,
such as RING, BUSY, NO ANSWER, or CONNECT.
With extended results enabled, more detailed information about a
connection is appended to the CONNECT message, such as the
speed at which the modems connect, protocol used, and whether
the connection is under ARQ (error control).
A typical use of result codes is for accounting purposes. Service
providers may charge different rates to callers depending on the
speed at which they connect. The result code is used to log the
connect speed (9600, 14400, 19200, etc.) and the customer is
charged accordingly.
Use the following settings to activate and tailor modem result
codes to your needs. Be aware that there may be software
incompatibility with some of the result codes listed. Contact your
software manufacturer for support if you run into problems.
