Installation
Data Format
The modem detects word length, parity, and DTE rate when sent
an AT command from a DTE. Set your software to the desired
word length, parity, and serial port rate defaults before sending the
modem any commands. Default values are 8-N-1 and 19.2 Kbps
for systems where the modem is not sent AT commands.
Changing NVRAM Settings
If your system requires changes to the modem’s default
configuration, you can change the settings stored in NVRAM.
Changing NVRAM settings is a two-step process:
1
Configure the modem with the desired settings.
2
Save the current modem settings to the modem’s NVRAM
using the
Store to NVRAM
command or to the MP/16’s
NVRAM using the Auto Configuration feature.
Using SNMP Management to Configure the modems
We suggest using your SNMP management software to configure
the modems. Modem configuration using management offers
many advantages over using AT commands, including the
following:
♦
Group configuration.
With management, all 16 modems may be
configured at one time, and these settings saved as power-
on/reset defaults.
♦
Remote Configuration.
Configure the modems from any SNMP
management station on your LAN or WAN.
♦
Multiple MP/16 Configuration.
Settings for one MP/16 may be
duplicated for any number of units.
If you are using
Total Control Manager/SNMP
(TCM) , consult the
TCM Installation/Configuration Roadmap or Software Guide. If
you are using other SNMP management software, see Chapter 3 of
this guide,
Using Total Control MIBs,
and your software’s user
manual.
