convenient network terminal. All SNMP and TFTP packets are
checked against this authorization list.
The Network Manager may clear the authorized access list from
the local console port in the event that access is locked (i.e., the
management station is not listed in the access list). Alternatively,
the boot from defaults DIP switch (5) can be used to boot with an
empty access list (i.e., no restrictions).
Accounting/Event Logging Server
The U.S. Robotics Accounting and Event Logging application
captures and logs a wide variety of call accounting and event
logging information to simple ASCII log files. Like the Security
option, this feature relies on the RADIUS (Remote Authentication
Dial In User Service) client-server protocol.
The NMC client communicates with the PC-based server via
Ethernet or Token Ring IP LAN. Information such as modem
connectivity and specific chassis events may be sent by NMC
clients across a LAN connection to be logged. The server itself
does not generate reports from the data; a post-processing
application or database script must be used to format the logged
data.
NOTE:
We do not encourage sending log data to a server via a
WAN connection.
There are a number of accounting and event logging-related
parameters in the nmcCfgLog and nmcTeLog groups of the NMC
MIB. These include configurable server selections and a trap for
any loss of server connection. The MIB text associated with each
object is self-explanatory.
Log Records
The NMC client can receive event records from 65 possible sources.
This corresponds to the NMC manager task and each instance of
the 16 device manager tasks times 4. The NMC client has an input
queue capable of handling 65 event records. This allows for the
maximum possible requesters to be issuing event records
simultaneously. If the input queue of the NMC client becomes
overloaded, the requester’s attempt to issue an event record will be
rejected. It is up to the requester to handle these rejections.
Initially, the events are discarded.
