Using Total Control MIBs
Command
Description
saveUiParamsTo
EEPROM(7)
This command is used to save the values of the MIB
objects defined in the nmcUiCfg group of the NMC
MIB to the EEPROM on the NMC. These objects are
treated separately from the other configurable
parameters of the NMC for a couple of reasons.
One such reason is that the IP addressing of the
NMC is unique. For this reason, it makes sense to
store them in the EEPROM that is physically part of
the NMC board. The Flash SIMM can easily be
swapped with other NMCs. Similarly, USR's
Total
Control Manager/SNMP
Console software does not
save this group of parameters in the *.whb file when
it saves a chassis configuration to disk.
The reason this command is necessary is that none
of the IP addressing parameters take effect
immediately upon issuing the SNMP SET request.
The new values are simply stored in RAM. Then
upon issuing the saveUiParamsToEEPROM
command, the NMC saves the RAM image to
EEPROM. Subsequently, a softwareReset
command must be issued to the NMC to cause the
new values for IP address related objects to take
effect.
MIB Access to Local Console Port
Configuration Parameters
For the convenience of remote management of the NMC, MIB
access has been provided to the configurable parameters of the
local console serial port. These parameters include such things as
IP addresses, subnet masks, SNMP community strings, etc. Due to
the complexities associated with changing many of these
parameters while the NMC is running operational code, an SNMP
SET to most of these objects simply results in setting a RAM
location within the NMC. A subsequent saveUiParamsToEEPROM
command must be issued, followed by a softwareReset command
or power cycle in order for the new values to take effect.
The exception to this rule is with the SNMP community strings.
Both the public (read-only view) and private (read-write view)
community strings take effect immediately, but if the NMC is reset
without issuing a saveUiParamsToEEPROM command, they will
revert to the values last saved to EEPROM.
