Field Software Upgrades

Maintenance

TDR7 decoders require no periodic or preventative maintenance other
than keeping the cooling fan intake grills free of obstruction.
Therefore, the only type of maintenance you can perform is a to
upgrade your TDR7 to the most current software version.

This section provides an overview of procedures used to upgrade the
TDR7 software. Step–by–step procedures will be provided by Tiernan
Communications Product Support engineers; however, if you are
preparing to perform a software upgrade, you should review this
information prior to contacting Tiernan Communications Product
Support.

Field Software Upgrades

The TDR7 is controlled by a built–in micro–controller equipped with
a non–volatile memory that is used to store configuration settings,
operational software, operational firmware, and field programmable
gate array (FPGA) configuration files. For upgrading software and
configuration files in the field, the memory can be accessed through
the remote control port of the TDR7.

You can perform field software upgrades using software downloaded
from the Tiernan web site, or you can use a floppy disk that contains
the upgrade software. An overview of procedures for performing
upgrades from both the Tiernan web site and from a floppy disk are
described in the following sections. For specific, detailed instructions
on performing a field software upgrade, contact a Tiernan
Communications Product Support engineer.

Upgrading
from the
Tiernan Web
Site

The basic process used to perform a field software upgrade of the
TDR7 using software downloaded from the Tiernan web site is as
follows:

1.

Contact Tiernan Communications Product Support to obtain a
password, names of the files to be downloaded, the location of the
files on the web site, and specific instructions for performing the
download.

2.

Download the self–extracting zip files from the Tiernan web site.
