Stop all backup operations before upgrading firmware.
Firmware Overview
Update RXT firmware when:
• Technical support directs you to do so
• You learn that new RXT firmware is available
• An RXT message notifies you to update the drive’s firmware
RXT firmware can be copied onto a RXT media pack to make sure you have a copy of
the firmware for redundancy, and to simplify updating multiple drives. RXT firmware is
automatically saved as necessary to the RXT media pack, as well, to help ensure that
the drive can read data written on the pack.
Firmware Definitions
User Firmware
: A copy of RXT firmware you can save onto a RXT media pack.
Purpose
: To keep a spare copy of drive firmware for redundancy and optionally to update
multiple RXT drives quickly
.
Auto Firmware
:
A drive firmware version that helps make sure that RXT drives can read data
on RXT media.
Purpose
: To make sure data on a pack can be read. Drives format data before writing it to a
pack. Newer drive firmware may write in a slightly updated or altered format. Every time a
drive writes to a pack using a newer format, a copy of that drive’s firmware is automatically
stored on the pack. This firmware copy is referred to as
Auto Firmware.
If you load the RXT
media pack into a drive that can’t read the data, the RXT drive notifies you to update the drive
using Auto Firmware. All drives can read data written onto packs that have been formatted
using earlier firmware versions than the firmware on the drive.
