Chapter 3. Using RXT Drives in the RXT350
22
Setting Write Protection
You can write-protect RXT media just as you would a tape. This prevents accidental
overwriting of crucial data. Note that you must set the Write Lock/Unlock switch when
the pack is outside of the RXT350; the RXT350 cannot recognize changes to the Write
Lock/Unlock switch if the switch is operated while the RXT media pack is loaded. To
set the Write Lock/Unlock switch, follow the steps in
RXT Write-Protecting
on page 20.
Noting RXT Media Pack Data
If you have multiple RXT media packs, you may want to use the label on the top of the
media for simple pack management. You can use a grease pencil to write information
that may be helpful in managing and tracking packs, such as the date and type of data
backed up. You can erase the notations using a paper towel dampened with a
de-greaser, such as window cleaner.
Caution:
Do not spray window cleaner directly onto the RXT media pack
label.
Using Automatic Ejects
Turn off the automatic eject feature of your backup software if you’re planning on
using the same RXT media pack for your next backup.
Checking RXT Media Capacity
When deciding what data to back up to an RXT media pack, you may want to check
the capacity of the RXT media pack. To determine available capacity of a pack, follow
the procedures in
Checking RXT Media Status
on page 27. You may want to make sure
that you have an extra pack on hand in case your backup requires more space.
