Digital Media Workstation Troubleshooting
(Continued)
Symptom
Check and What to do
Digital Media
Workstation cannot
be powered on.
Check that power is being supplied to the Digital Media Workstation.
t
Check that the AC power cord is connected to a power source or UPS (uninterruptible power
source) that meets the power specifications.
t
Always use the specified AC power cord. Check whether the sheath of the cord has been damaged,
and whether the plug has been bent.
t
Check that the breaker for the power source is on.
t
If you have connected the Digital Media Workstation to a UPS, check that the UPS is powered on
and that power is being supplied from the UPS.
For details, refer to the manual of the UPS.
Check whether the STANDBY/ON switch was pressed.
t
Power the Digital Media Workstation on by pressing the STANDBY/ON switch on the front panel.
Check whether the STANDBY/ON switch was pressed immediately after connecting the AC power
cord.
t
Hardware initialization diagnostics start when you connect the AC power cord. The diagnostics
require about 5 seconds to finish. The STANDBY/ON switch does not function during this time. Wait
about 5 seconds after connecting the AC power cord before pressing the STANDBY/ON switch.
Digital Media
Workstation cannot
be powered off.
Check whether the STANDBY/ON switch has been disabled.
t
Reboot the Digital Media Workstation, start the BIOS Setup Utility, and set the power switch mask
to Unmasked.
Setup Utility menu: Security > Power Switch Mask > Unmasked
POST does not
finish.
Check whether memory has been installed.
t
At least two DIMM memory modules must be installed.
Check whether a large amount of memory has been installed.
t
The memory check may take a relatively long time to finish when a large amount of memory is
installed.
Check whether the keyboard or mouse were used immediately after booting the Digital Media
Workstation.
t
If you operate the keyboard or mouse immediately after booting the Digital Media Workstation,
POST may erroneously interpret that as a keyboard controller failure and stop. If this happens,
reboot the system, and do not touch the keyboard or mouse until the BIOS messages appear.
Check whether the memory and PCI/ISA devices installed in the Digital Media Workstation are of the
specified type.
t
Operation of devices other than those specified by Sony cannot be guaranteed.
