4-2-5 Surveillance Service Application Messages
The Surveillance Service Application acquires and
saves SCSI disk log sense data at periodic intervals.
When error states are detected in the sense data,
messages are displayed to alert users to the need for
maintenance.
SCSI Disk Watcher can be used to view the
accumulated log sense data.
The following messages are displayed by the
Surveillance Service Application.

Description/Steps to take
Errors were found on the following disks. Please note for
future reference.
Errors have occurred on the disks indicated in the dialog.
Caution is required.
Multiple errors were found on the following disks.
Maintenance is needed if errors continue. Start the GUI tool
and check the state of the disks.
Multiple errors have occurred on the disks indicated in the

1)
The state of the following disks is poor. Formatting the disks
to reinitialize is recommended.
The state of the disks indicated in the dialog is poor. It may be
advisable to reformat. SCSI Disk Watcher should be used to
reformat.
1)
The state of the following disks is very poor. Exchanging the
disks is recommended.
Poor status has been observed several times on the disks
indicated in the dialog. The disks should be exchanged.
Please use the GUI tool to check the state of the disks.
Disk errors are occurring. SCSI Disk Watcher should be
started to check the state of the disks.
A long time has passed since disk information was acquired.
OK to re-acquire the information? However, do not start
information acquisition during digitizing or recording to VTR.
A set length of time has passed without shutdown since the
SCSI Surveillance Tool last acquired Log Sense data.
2)
The
data should be updated. However, log sense data acquisition
can adversely affect data read and write performance. It
should not be performed during editing work on the XPRI
system (especially not during operations such as digitizing
and writing to VTR).
1) SCSI Disk Watcher must be operating in service mode to
format disks or perform other kinds of maintenance.
Contact someone who has the authority to perform
maintenance (an administrator or service representative).
2) The SCSI Surveillance Tool automatically acquires log
sense data every time the workstation boots up. If a long
time passes without rebooting, this message is displayed to
prompt the user to manually update the log sense data.
