What It Does
Test Print Head
Yes, No
Allows you to print a test pattern to deter-
mine if the print heads are functioning prop-
erly. For this option, material must be loaded
in the printer input bin. When prompted to
run, press
Enter
and the printer displays
“Please wait... Test pattern is printing.” The
ink jet cartridge prints a table of rows and
columns across the material. If a gap is pres-
ent in any of the rows, one or more nozzles
may be blocked and need cleaning. A wavy
line indicates a partial blocked nozzle. You
can purge the nozzles (see next menu item
below) or use a soft cotton cloth with or with-
out water to clean the printhead. If purging or
cleaning the printhead doesn’t work, then try
a new ink cartridge.

the printed address. The printer can print an

lines.

TIP:

shooting

of good and poor test
prints and for trouble-
shooting printing
problems.
✍
TIP:
One characteris-
tic of ink jet systems
is that when a jet is
not used regularly, it
tends to clog up with
dried ink. This leaves
lines across the print,
especially in graph-
ics. To avoid this, the
system must periodi-
cally fire and clean all
of the nozzles on the
print head. This activ-
ity is called purging.
These printers are
designed to purge
the head at specific
intervals depending
on the print density.
Any time that the print
quality appears to be
deteriorating and the
cartridge is not low on
ink, a purge is a good
way to restore print
quality.
