6.4.2 DPOAE
Applies to AccuScreen PRO D, DA, TD, TDA
Test result PASS
A PASS result indicates that the patient has normal outer hair cell
function in at least three out of four different frequency regions of
the cochlea at the time of testing. A single frequency
PASS is deter-
mined by a statistical algorithm based on binomial statistics, which
ensures high-sensitivity detection.
Test result REFER
A REFER result indicates that in at least two frequency bands out of
four (for DPOAE), or three out of eight (for DP Diagnostic), no sig-
nificant DP response could be detected.
The DPOAE result specifies each frequency tested. This facilitates
decisions concerning further procedures. However, a
REFER should
always be taken seriously, even if 3 frequencies (for DPOAE), or 7
frequencies (for DP Diagnostics), show a
PASS . But a PASS at a sin-
gle frequency at least indicates near to normal hearing in the speci-
fied band.
The major reason for non-detection is a too noisy situation or a bad
probe fitting in the ear canal. In DPOAEs this is especially true for
the lowest frequencies. Therefore, low frequency
REFER with high
frequency PASS is a strong indicator that test conditions were not
optimal. If this is the case, it is recommended that you improve test
conditions and repeat the test.
Note:
Retro-cochlear hearing loss cannot be detected by DPOAE testing.
6.4.3 ABR
Applies to AccuScreen PRO A, TA, DA, TDA
Test result PASS
A PASS indicates that an auditory brainstem response to a 35, 40 or
45 dB nHL broadband stimulus was detected. This method mainly
tests the frequencies from 2000 to 4000 Hz, which carry the most im-
portant acoustic information for speech development. A
PASS result
ensures that a significant hearing loss in these frequencies can be
ruled out with 99.5% confidence.
Test result REFER
A REFER may indicate a significant hearing loss.
A REFER may also be the result when too much electrical noise
drowns out the response.
