Connecting a modem
49
Variable
Value
peer-ip <ipaddr>
Configures the peer (PC) IP address
on the point-to-point link. The default
is 0.0.0.0. The switch assigns this
value to any PC that connects
through the modem port with
configured TCP/IP properties to
obtain an IP address automatically.
If the client uses a static IP address,
the Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch
8600 accepts this address. If you use
Password Authentication Protocol
(PAP) authentication, you must
ensure that the client uses the correct
IP address.
pppfile <file>
Specifies the PPP configuration file
you must use to provide details for
authentication and other options
the switch includes during the boot
process. If you configure the port
mode to PPP, you must specify a
PPP filename. For more information
about this file, see
“Procedure job
aid: PPP file” (page 49)
.
The PPP file name is a string value
of no more than 64 characters.
Identify the file in the format
{a.b.c.d:|peer:|/pcmcia/|/flash/}<file>.
ATTENTION
Do not specify a PPP filename with
more than 64 characters.
restart
Shuts down and initializes the port.
slip-compression <true|false>
Enables or disables Transmission
Control Protocol over IP (TCP/IP)
header compression for SLIP mode.
The default is false.
slip-rx-compression
<true|false>
Enables or disables TCP/IP header
compression on the receive packet
for SLIP mode. The default is false.
