Setup and Operation      2-23

The factory-installed master/slave combination for configurations with an IDE hard disk
drive and a CD-ROM reader (all 2513 models, and some 2516 models) is “2 Masters.” The
hard disk drive is connected to the primary PCI/IDE port as a master and the CD-ROM
reader is connected to the secondary PCI/IDE port as a master.

The factory-installed master/slave combination for 2516 models with a Zip drive is
“2 Masters, 1 Slave.” The Zip drive is added to the primary PCI/IDE port as a slave device.

Jumper settings on the IDE device set the device to master or slave (see the documentation
that comes with the device).

Select the IDE Adapter option configuration directly from the Main Menu summary
window (see Figure 2-11). Available options include:

IDE Adapter 1 Master

IDE Adapter 1 Slave.

IDE Adapter 0 configures the primary PCI/IDE port (primary channel), IDE Adapter 1
configures the secondary IDE port.

Each IDE Adapter parameter has a right-pointing arrow to the left of it. Selecting the
option displays an IDE adapters advanced features menu with IDE hard disk parameters.
Select an IDE Adapter option and set parameters for each hard disk drive separately.

Table 2-3 shows the hard disk parameters that may be configured using the BIOS Setup
utility. Since the factory-installed hard disk drives feature auto IDE type detection, simply
select the Autotype Fixed Disk parameter. The system then automatically detects the hard
disk type and sets the remaining parameters.

   Incorrect settings can cause the

system to malfunction and to not read the drive.
