Universal Serial Bus (USB) Interface
PowerMate Office 2513/2516 Series computers come equipped with two Universal Serial
Bus (USB) ports located on the rear panel.
The USB port allows new plug and play serial devices to be added to the system without
having to open up the system. The USB determines system resources for each peripheral
and assigns them without user intervention. Up to 127 devices can be daisy-chained to a
single computer.
POWER SUPPLY
The 200-watt 115-/220-volt switchable power supply is mounted inside the system unit. It
supplies power to the system board, option boards, diskette drives, hard disk drives,
keyboard, and mouse. A fan inside the power supply provides system ventilation. The
power supply has several cables for attaching to the various storage devices requiring
power.
DISKETTE DRIVE
Up to two diskette drives are supported in the system. The installed 3 1/2-inch diskette
drive is connected to a three-connector single ribbon cable. The cable plugs directly into the
system board. If installing a second diskette drive, plug the unused connector into the
second drive. Typically both diskette drives are terminated. Connector locations are given in
Appendix A.
HARD DISK DRIVE
The system supports up to four IDE hard disk drives, the standard hard disk drives and
three optional hard disk drives. The standard 3 1/2-inch hard disk drive (1-inch high, thin-
height) is installed in an internal slot, behind the front panel and at the bottom of the chassis.
An optional 3 1/2-inch hard disk drive can be installed in the empty internal 3 1/2-inch slot
behind the rear panel at the bottom of the chassis, or in any of the 5 1/4-inch accessible
device slots.
The installed hard disk drive is connected by a three-connector single ribbon cable. The
cable plugs into the primary (fast) PCI/IDE port connector on the system board. (The cable
also connects the Zip drive in some 2516 models.) Connector locations are given in
Appendix A. Hard disk drive specifications are included in Appendix B.
ZIP DRIVE
The Zip drive is a standard feature on some 2516 models. The Zip drive is installed in a
5 1/4-inch accessible slot. The installed Zip drive is connected to the middle drive connector
on the three-connector, single ribbon IDE cable that also connects the hard disk drive to the
system board.
