Microphone
The microphone that comes with the PowerMate Office 2513/2516 Series allows the
recording of voice and sound into computer data files. The microphone and stereo speaker
set provide hands-free speakerphone and voicemail functions. The microphone works in
conjunction with the NEC RingCentral™ sound application program. The microphone and
voice recording software (Kurzweil Voicepad) can be used for dictation. The microphone
and voice control software (Verbex
®
Listen to Windows) can also be used to control
Windows 95 applications. The microphone connects to the microphone in jack located on
the back of the system.
FAX/DATA/SPEAKERPHONE MODEM BOARD
PowerMate Office 2513/2516 Series computers come with a fax/data/speakerphone modem
board and the NEC RingCentral data communications software preinstalled. The board and
the data communications software are an all-in-one communications product that serves as
a speakerphone, voicemail, a fax system, and a data modem. The fax/modem board offers a
full-duplex speakerphone and 33,600 bits per second (bps) data/14,400 bps fax
communications. The fax/modem default settings are COM1, IRQ4. As the modem board is
a Plug and Play board, there are no switch or jumpers to set.
PLUG AND PLAY
The system comes with a Plug and Play BIOS which supports Plug and Play technology.
Plug and Play eliminates complicated setup procedures for installing Plug and Play
expansion boards. With Plug and Play, adding a Plug and Play expansion board is done by
turning off the system, installing the board, and turning on the system. There are no jumpers
to set and no system resource conflicts to resolve. Plug and Play automatically configures
the board.
POWER MANAGEMENT
Each system is Energy Star compliant and comes with the power-saving features enabled.
Power saving options for the system include full power, partial power reduction (Standby
mode), and full power reduction (Suspend mode). If the keyboard, mouse, and drives are
not used for 15 minutes, the screen goes blank and the system goes into a Standby mode.
As soon as activity is detected, the system resumes where it left off.
If the system remains inactive for 15 minutes after Standby mode is initiated, it goes into
Suspend mode. The system can be manually put into a Suspend mode by pressing the
suspend button. Suspend mode provides the greatest power savings by putting the system in
maximum power shutdown. When the system goes into Suspend mode, it saves data and
system status and then shuts off power to all possible components. As soon as activity is
detected, the system resumes where it left off.
