The back of the eight-speed CD-ROM reader contains the following connectors and
jumpers:
Audio line output connector — connects the reader’s analog audio output to the
system’s sound system via a four-pin audio cable.
Digital audio output connector — connects the reader’s digital audio output to
the system via a two-pin audio cable.
Drive mode setting jumpers — enables or disables the cable select feature, slave
device configuration, or master device configuration. The CD-ROM reader is set
as the master device on the secondary PCI/IDE channel.
IDE connector — connects the reader to the secondary PCI/IDE connector on the
system board via an I/O cable
Power connector — connects the reader to the power supply via a power supply
cable.
The NEC eight-speed CD-ROM reader has two jumper blocks on the back of the reader.
Jumpers on connector block A enable or disable the single drive mode function of the
reader and sets test modes (for factory use only). Jumpers on connector block B configure
the reader as a master (factory set) or slave. Descriptions of the jumpers are as follows:
CSEL (cable select) — enables/disables the cable select feature. Factory set at
disabled (pins not jumpered)
Slave — enables/disables the slave feature. Factory set at disabled (pins not
jumpered)
Master — enables/disables the master feature. Factory set at enabled (pins
jumpered)
Single — enables/disables single drive mode. Factory set at disabled (pins not
jumpered).
