3.3.2
POWER RECLINE FUNCTION
(OPTIONAL)
The recline function allows for adjustment of the seat-to-back angle on the Rovi-Upfront MPPS.
RANGE OF TRAVEL:
IMPORTANT!
The full range of Recline is only available when the Rovi-Upfront MPPS is in the home position
- refer to
Recline- Lockouts & Limits
Recline- Lockouts & Limits below
(see also
section 4.3.3
)
The recline back angle can be adjusted infinitely within the established range of recline (from 93°toa maximum
of 168°).
Note:
The maximum recline angle of the seating system will be decreased by the number of degrees
of precline when the seating system is in the home position.
(i.e.; if the precline back angle of the seat is set
to -5° (85°), then the maximum recline angle of the seating system would be 160°).
The Recline function comes standard with
Extended Shear Reduction (ESR)
. The ESR feature is designed
to synchronize with the recline function (via linkages) to significantly reduce the amount of shear between the
end user and the backrest when the seating system is reclined.
RECLINE - LOCKOUTS & LIMITS:
The Rovi-Upfront MPPS is programmed with a
Drive Lockout (DLO)
limit to prevent the wheelchair from
being driven when the seating system is reclined (or tilted) beyond a safe angle. The DLO Limit is typically set
to engage once the tilt or recline back angle reaches 30° (when Reduced Drive Speed
*
is programmed); or
when the tilt or recline angle reaches 25° (if Reduced Drive Speed is not programmed). See
Fig 1.0
below.
*Note:
The
Reduced Drive Speed (RDS)
limit may be set/programmed to reduce the drive speed of the
wheelchair to approximately 25-30% of its maximum speed, when the back angle extends beyond the established
home position. The Reduced Drive Speed limit is typically set to engage when the recline (or tilt) angle is
between 10° to 25° and will stop once the Drive Lockout limit is reached.
When the Rovi-Upfront MPPS is in the full Reach position, the maximum recline angle is limited to the Drive
Lockout setting (up to 30°) due to limitations in the amount of space behind the seating system.
(See also
Section 3.3.4 Elevate/Reach Lockouts and Limits
).
The
Max. Tilt
or
Tilt/Recline Limit
sets the maximum back angle for the seating system at full Tilt or
Recline or Tilt/Recline combined. This limit prevents the back angle from extending beyond the maximum
allowable angle. Motion Concepts seating systems are typically preset at the factory to the maximum safe
angle and do not require any further adjustment unless the maximum angle needs to be decreased.

CAUTION! Risk of System Damage or Property Damage
When reclining your seating system, always consider the size/location of any personal gear being carried
on the back of the wheelchair, as it could become pinched/entangled in the anterior-tilt seat module.
