Connecting Gases
You can connect only one analysis gas and one bottle of helium to the Gemini. The gas ports
are located on the rear panel of the instrument.
The following instructions apply to "standard" installations only. Standard means that the gas
bottle is located within 6 feet (1.83 m) of the instrument and the gas lines used are those
provided by Micromeritics with the instrument.
What You Will Need
Micromeritics Supplied
•
Gas tubing
•
Dual-stage regulator for each gas bottle (may be user-supplied)
•
Two 7/16-in. (11 mm) wrenches
User Supplied
•
Analysis gas
•
Helium
The Gemini uses pressure relief valves to return the instrument to a safe condition in
the event of a power failure or loss of cryogen. This protects the user from dangerous
pressures on the sample tube. However, extra caution should be employed if toxic or
flammable gases are used. The pressure relief valves vent into the instrument cabinet.
Additional venting of the cabinet may be required for use with flammable or toxic
gases.
These instructions refer to the installation of a gas bottle,
regulator, and one gas line for each type of gas used. Expansion
kits or other accessories may be used in the lab. If so, you will have
to give consideration to these configurations when installing the
gas lines.
