Check the Axle Housing Lubricant Level

It is necessary to climb under the crane to check the axle
housing lubricant. Be sure engine is shut off, the ignition key
is removed and chock blocks are in place before climbing
under the crane.

Clean around the axle housing fill/check plug (1,
Figure 6-37) and remove the plug.

Check the lubricant level, which should be even with the
bottom of the fill/check hole.

If necessary, add Mobil Fluid 424, or equivalent, to fill the
housings until the oil is level with the bottom of the fill/
check hole.

Check the Wheel Hub Lubricant Level

Position the fill/check plug so it is horizontal with the
ground, at the 3 o’clock position (1, Figure 6-38).

Clean around the plug and then remove it.

Check the lubricant level, which should be even with the
bottom of the hole.

If necessary, add Mobil Fluid 424, or equivalent, to fill the
hub to the bottom of the check plug hole.

Repeat Steps 1 through 4 for the other wheel hubs.
