Buffers contain high concentrations of GuSCN and GuHCl, which crystalize over time
as the liquid evaporates. They are strong deteriorating agents and lead to corrosion
and rusting.
To prevent rusting strictly follow the direction for Preventive Maintenance:
Maintenance after Each Run:
- Clean operational area (check for spillage, clean the inside the machine)
- Clean the spillage if occurred
- Clean waste box
Daily Maintenance:
- Clean operational area with 90% alcohol and a soft cloth (check for spillage, clean
machine inside, lubricate moving parts if needed)
- Run X-axis test for 10-15 minutes at the end of operation periodically
- If present, clean the residue on the rail with 90% alcohol with a soft cloth
- Use grease to lubricate the sliders and the rail if needed
- Run UV sterilization
If reagents are spilled and left inside the machine and on the rails, it will be taken inside
the sliders as machine operates. The bearings inside the sliders will start rusting and
when rust accumulates they will stuck, preventing X-axis from moving.
Rusting happens over few days; if you find spillage, clean it immediately.
To replace the rails or sliders send the instrument back to RBC Bioscience Corp. Taiwan
for maintenance.
To clean the rust, use large amount of grease on the rails and in the sliders, make sure
the grease gets inside the bearings.
Clean the rails and run X- motor test. If there is still rust on the rails repeat until they are
clean and lubricate them.
Make sure the cables and connectors are not getting wet.
If there are rusty stains on the rails that don't go out, they can be cleaned with sanding
paper, washed and greased.
