GENERAL SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
RESIDUAL RISKS THAT THE USER MUST IDENTIFY AND ELIMINATE
These are risks deriving not from the LASER itself but from its use. In fact, associated with the main
radiation, are collateral infrared and ultraviolet radiation, which, due to their intensity, may represent a
potential hazard.
Due to its high power density (irradiation), the LASER beam is capable of triggering the combustion of
flammable substances such as volatile substances (solvents, petroleum, ethers, alcohols, etc.) as well as
methacrylate or plastic resins.
The interaction of the LASER beam with organic and inorganic materials causes the formation of fumes and
vapours that, in some cases, may be harmful to health and/or toxic! The solvent used when cleaning the
lenses is highly flammable and irritating to the eyes and when inhaled.
WARNINGS
In order to minimise residual risks, it is important to heed the following warnings:
• Do not remove the lamp rotextion and the safety barriers.
• When using the lamps, use goggles and gloves.
• Do not point the LASER beam at materials considered to be flammable.
• Eliminate the fumes by means of a suitable extractor.
• Do not reintroduce fumes into the environment until they have been filtered.
• Do not work on live electrical equipment with the safety barriers removed.
• Do not make adjustments while the Laser is activated.
• Ensure all work is carried out by qualified and authorised personnel only.
In conclusion, if all the requirements set out above are met, there is no reason to assume that working with
a system containing a LASER source involves a greater level of risk than any other activity!
