Water softener usage instructions
The water softener with working pressures under 8 bar and should be supplied only with
cold drinkable water at temperatures between 0 °C and 60 °C.
The filters should be regenerated only with kitchen salt. No other type of natural or
chemical substance can be used.
The water softener should be installed by qualified personnel, in compliance with
current regulations and following instructions. Improper installation may result in injuries
or damages for which Jofemar S.A. assumes no liability.
The water filter should not be installed at temperatures under 0 °C, as the water inside
could freeze.
Periodic regeneration of the water softener
As mentioned above, with use the resin in the water softener builds up calcium and
magnesium ions while releasing the sodium ions it initially contained. This results in
saturation of the resin, so that it cannot retain the calcium and magnesium ions in the
water anymore. To prevent this, the resin has to be regenerated periodically before it
reaches saturation point. As mentioned above, when this happens will depend on the
water’s hardness. To regenerate the filter, follow the steps below:
§
Disconnect the machine from electrical mains and empty the water circuit.
§
Remove the waste bin from the coffee machine so you can pull out the water
softener from the machine enough to work comfortably.
§
Turn the water softener inlet nozzle (top) stopcock clockwise 90º to close the water
inlet. Close the lower nozzle stopcock in the same way to close off the water circuit.
Place a rubber tube (included with the water softener) in the free end of the water
softener inlet nozzle (top) and the other end of the tube in a container to collect the
dirty water from regeneration. (figure 1)
§
Open the top lid of the water softener by turning the lever. Put
1.3 kg
of kitchen salt
inside the water softener. Re-close the top lid, being careful to remove any grains of
resin that may have become stuck to the lid rubber gasket to prevent pressure
losses from a faulty closure.
§
Turn the lower nozzle stopcock 90º clockwise to open the water inlet toward the
drain tube attached to this nozzle which you have connected to the regenerating
waste water container (fig. 2).
§
Turn the top nozzle stopcock to its initial position so that water can flow into the
water softener.
§
Connect the machine to electrical mains so water can come into the machine, go
through the water softener filter and exit into the waste water container. Maintain the
flow until the water being discharged completely loses its salty taste.
§
Return the water softener nozzle stopcocks to working position. Put the water
softener in its place as well as the other parts that have been moved.
