Configuring WLAN Connection
You have to adjust the WLAN settings of the INSYS WLAN serial 2.1 that the INSYS WLAN
serial 2.1 can be accessed in the WLAN. You can integrate the INSYS WLAN serial 2.1 into
an "ad-hoc" WLAN (point to point, operation without access point) or "infrastructure"
WLAN (operation with access point). You have to configure the ESSID, the WLAN mode as
well as the encryption that the INSYS WLAN serial 2.1 can connect to the WLAN.
You can define the network to which the INSYS WLAN serial 2.1 will connect using the
ESSID.
If you use the ad-hoc mode, you must also specify the radio channel. You must configure
the same radio channel for all participating devices in ad-hoc mode. This radio channel
should not be used by other WLANs in reception range of your INSYS WLAN serial 2.1 at
the same time. Some countries require othe frequency ranges. If you operate the INSYS
WLAN serial 2.1 in France, Spain or USA, select the respective country setting or radio
channels that are permitted there.
You can encrypt data transfer in the WLAN. The INSYS WLAN serial 2.1 supports the WEP
algorithm with key lengths of 64 Bit and 128 Bit as well as WPA-PSK. The WPA-PSK en-
cryption algorithm is only available in infrastructure mode. Up to 4 WEP keys can be
stored when using WEP. Each WEP key consists of 10 hexadecimal characters for 64 Bit
encryption, each WEP key consists of 26 hexadecimal characters for 128 Bit encryption.
The hexadecimal characters (0...9 as well as A...F) can be used. When using WPA, any
characters can be used for your WPA key. We recommend to use WPA encryption. WPA is
one of the most secure encryption methods for WLAN at the moment.
Default setting is the ESSID "WLANDEMO", no encryption, for ad-hoc operation channel 6
with Master role. The default country setting is "Europe".
Configuration with HSComm
In order to
set the WLAN name (ESSID)
, enter the desired ESSID on the "WLAN"
tab into the "network name SSID" field (Figure 8, page 46 position 2).
In order to
configure the WLAN mode
, select on the "WLAN" tab the "infra-
structure" or "adhoc" option (Figure 8, page 46 position 2). If you select ad-hoc
mode, you must also specify the radio channel and role of the device. The
country selection (Figure 8, page 46, position 8) allows to limit the usable ra-
dio channels according to the regulations of the respective country of use. Se-
