9 Initial Operation
9.1 Connecting Device and Auxiliary Devices for Commission-
ing
This section shows how to connect the devices, PC, and power supply to be able to
configure and commission the INSYS WLAN serial 2.1 before installation.
In order to test the configuration of the INSYS WLAN serial 2.1, you will need fur-
ther devices depending on the mode, in which you want to operate the INSYS
WLAN serial 2.1.
For testing the infrastructure mode, you will need an access point, for operation in
ad-hoc mode a PC with WLAN adapter.
Connecting WLAN antenna
How to connect the WLAN antenna to the INSYS WLAN serial 2.1.

Ensure that the INSYS WLAN serial 2.1 is not connected to the power sup-
ply.

Have an antenna for WLAN applications with a Reverse SMA connector
ready.
1. Place the device upright onto a surface that the connector face upwards.
2. Connect the antenna to the Reverse SMA socket by screwing the antenna
connector or the antenna itself onto the socket. Tighten the connection
hand-tight.
Making the serial connection to the PC
How to connect the serial interface of the INSYS WLAN serial 2.1 with the
serial interface of a PC.

Have the delivered 9-pin serial cable ready.

Ensure that the INSYS WLAN serial 2.1 is not connected to the power sup-
ply.

Turn off the PC before connecting the device.
1. Place the device upright onto a surface that the connector face upwards.
2. Connect the cable to the D-Sub socket of the INSYS WLAN serial 2.1. Tighten
the connector screws.
3. Locate the serial connection on the back of your PC.
4. Connect the serial cable to a serial interface of your PC. Tighten the connec-
tor screws.
