Chapter 7. Error Recovery Procedures
The Internal Disk provides 24-byte compatibility sense data and 32-byte sense
data. The 24-byte compatibility sense indicates the error recovery and logging
actions in bytes 0–2. The 32-byte sense indicates these actions in bytes 24 and
25.
“ERPs for 24-Byte Compatibility Sense” defines ERP requirements when the sense
data is 24-byte compatibility sense (sense byte 27, bit 0 is ‘1’). “ERPs for ECKD
32-Byte Sense” on page 7-5 defines ERP requirements when the sense data is
ECKD 32-byte sense (sense byte 27, bit 0 is ‘0’).
ERPs for 24-Byte Compatibility Sense
Table 7-1 identifies all unique bit configurations in bytes 0 through 2, and maps
each of these configurations to a specific recovery action for the host program.
“Error Recovery Actions” on page 7-2 describes the error recovery action (
Act
) in
Table 7-1.
If logging (shown as
Log
in Table 7-1) is specified, the host program must create
an Outboard Recorder (OBR) type 30 record.
With the exception of message to operator, and imprecise ending, the bit
combinations in Table 7-1 represent all valid combinations. Message to operator,
and imprecise ending can be active with several combinations.
